Mastopexy is a surgical procedure for breast lifting, useful for raising and firming sagging and relaxed breasts.
Most women compare themselves to the ideal beauty of their culture. The appearance of one’s body is a fundamental component of feeling good, desirable, and normal.
Undergoing aesthetic breast surgery can significantly improve self-esteem. Excessive breast sagging can greatly compromise the aesthetic appearance of the female body, also affecting interpersonal relationships. This procedure is indicated for lifting excessively sagging breasts.
Mastopexy is a procedure performed on the breasts to lift them. We know that breasts can tend to sag a bit due to pregnancies, breastfeeding, and the passage of time.
Through surgery, the mammary gland can be repositioned to its original position. This procedure, usually performed under general anesthesia, involves a hospital stay of about 24 hours.
BREAST LIFT: WHAT’S NEW!
In most cases, breast sagging is due to deflation (weight loss, breastfeeding) rather than actual glandular descent.
Today, we have two methods for breast lifting that can help our patients solve the problem without scars or with minimal scarring: in some cases, we can perform a breast lift by restoring tone and fullness to the breasts by grafting adipose tissue (breast lipofilling); in other cases, new implants with special shapes (conical, hyper-projected, polyurethane) particularly suited for sagging breasts can be used.
In the case of breast lipofilling (adipose tissue grafting), the procedure has the advantage of removing unsightly fat deposits and using the adipose tissue for breast lifting: this procedure is performed under assisted local anesthesia, on a day hospital basis (no overnight stay required) and does not require any scars or stitches.
In the case of using implants, the breast lift is achieved by placing implants that, filling the deflated breasts, achieve the lifting effect. This procedure is usually performed under general anesthesia, with an overnight stay, and requires only a small scar of about 4 cm either in the inframammary fold or at the edge of the areola.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT MASTOPEXY
Is breast surgery right for you?
During the consultation with your surgeon, explain your goals and expectations for the procedure. The doctor will consider the nature of your breasts, take your hopes into account, and ask questions about pregnancies and breast diseases.
How is the procedure performed?
Breast lifting is performed under general anesthesia. The procedure usually takes two to three hours. The technique used by the surgeon depends on the shape, size, and degree of sagging of your breasts; the skin is incised and the gland is repositioned to its natural position. In some cases, there is also deflation of the breasts, and in this case, it may be necessary to insert an implant to restore the lost volume.
What will my recovery be like after this procedure?
Bed rest is recommended for the first day. You will need to wear a special bra for about a week. Some patients have experienced swelling, sensitivity, or bruising; these symptoms subside in a few days. All stitches are removed after 1-2 weeks. The surgeon will advise you on the program for returning to your normal activities. Many patients return to work after the first week following the procedure.
Are there any functional consequences?
In some cases, breastfeeding capacity and areolar sensitivity may be reduced. However, the appearance of your body and your self-esteem will improve, as well as your relationships with others.
