Blepharoplasty

The appearance of the eyes is of fundamental importance in our face: the action of the sun, the passage of time, genetic predisposition, and sometimes stress cause a sagging of the eyelid area, which manifests as excess skin on the upper eyelid and the so-called bags on the lower part; this can be accompanied by the formation of wrinkles in the forehead area and a descent of the eyebrow line, resulting in a tired and dull look.

Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty (often associated with other techniques such as eyebrow repositioning with an endoscopic technique), can restore freshness and brightness to the eyes, bringing greater harmony to your face.

How does the consultation work?

During the consultation, you will discuss your expectations, and the surgeon will explain what the results will be. He will ask you questions about your health status and will explain the most suitable technique for your case and whether it will be combined with other techniques.

Upper Blepharoplasty

Upper blepharoplasty is performed in cases of excess skin on the upper eyelid, known as dermatochalasis: it is important to carefully evaluate whether this excess skin is truly caused by the loss of tone and elasticity of the eyelid skin or if it is due to the descent of the eyebrow and/or volume loss of the supraorbital arch. In the case of actual loss of skin tone of the upper eyelid, upper blepharoplasty is indicated, while in other cases, the correct procedure is the repositioning of the tail of the eyebrow with the MIVEL endoscopic technique and/or the restoration of volume and regeneration of the supraorbital arch through the implantation of adipose tissue and stem cells (SEFFI and MicroSEFFI or SEFFiller®). Only an accurate diagnosis and correct therapy will result in a natural and harmonious effect.

Lower Blepharoplasty

Lower blepharoplasty is performed in cases of suborbital fat herniation (the so-called “bags under the eyes”); this condition very rarely requires skin removal as the skin adapts quickly once the fat “bag” is removed. For this reason, the modern approach to this situation involves the transconjunctival procedure, meaning no external incision is made around the eye; instead, a small incision is made inside. Transconjunctival lower blepharoplasty has numerous advantages:

  • No external scar
  • Extremely fast recovery times
  • No need for stitches to be removed
  • No alteration of the shape of the eye

The latter point is extremely important because with the traditional approach involving an external incision, the result is a rounding of the eye, which is aesthetically unpleasing. The external approach is only necessary in cases of true lower eyelid skin excess associated with laxity of the orbicularis oculi muscle.

In cases of excess skin WITHOUT muscle laxity, a technique known as “mini pinch” can be performed: this technique involves the removal of the fat bag via the transconjunctival route and the removal of only the excess skin with an external incision, without affecting the orbicularis oculi muscle, thus not altering its shape and function. Our philosophy is always to pursue minimally invasive surgery that delivers natural and harmonious results, always with total safety.

What will the recovery be like?

The sutures will be removed after about four days, and you will be able to resume social and work activities immediately.

How long does the effect of the surgery last?

The rejuvenation achieved with this surgery lasts over time: the aging process continues its natural course, but the perceived age will certainly be lower than the actual one. Skin care after the surgery is still recommended: the surgeon will guide you on how to enhance the results further.

Can blepharoplasty be combined with other techniques?

This surgery is often combined with other facial rejuvenation techniques, such as eyebrow repositioning with endoscopic technique (M.I.V.E.L.), restoration of facial volumes with adipose tissue implantation (S.E.F.F.I.), and neck lifting, to give a natural and harmonious sense of freshness to the entire face.
