As I promised you a few posts ago, today we are discussing the surgeon’s fee, how to interpret it, and especially how to choose a surgeon based on your budget.
First of all, let’s immediately discuss what exactly determines the surgeon’s fee in practice. Obviously, their experience and their knowledge of that particular procedure.
If we talk, for example, about facial surgery, which is certainly my main focus because I published the Mivel endoscopic technique for endoscopic lifting, I have published a unique technique for neck lifting called NAL, and I have also published the Seffi and Microseffi techniques for facial and tissue regeneration. So, without any doubt, my primary focus and my career spanning over thirty years have been predominantly concentrated on the face and on treatments and procedures for facial rejuvenation.
Well, how should you choose a surgeon, and how should you evaluate the fee? It’s clear that I would classify surgeons, specifically in the realm of facial surgery, into three major categories.
Young surgeons can indeed be very talented, but naturally, they cannot yet possess extensive experience. Facial surgery is a type of surgery that necessitates significant experience because it is highly specialized and intricate. It involves a very specific anatomical area and requires highly technical skills. These young surgeons often handle a variety of different procedures, from breast augmentation to liposuction, and sometimes even facial surgeries. Again, they can be talented, but this is the most affordable category.
Then there are the more experienced surgeons, often with white beards, who have never specialized in a single procedure, for example, in facelifts, but continue to perform a variety of surgeries. In this particular case, they obviously have experience but may not be as focused or specialized, for example, in facial cosmetic surgery, such as facelifts.
Finally, there are those whom I consider to be top-tier surgeons, especially in the field of facial surgery, who have many years of extensive experience, who probably have white beards and have published numerous works, demonstrating their focus and dedication to their field. Their primary interest is predominantly in facial surgery, including facelifts, endoscopy, rhinoplasty, and blepharoplasty. These are undoubtedly the surgeons who will likely have the highest fees, even though, as I always say, be cautious of fees that are excessively high as well as those that are excessively low.
So I hope these small pieces of advice help you better understand and interpret the surgeon’s fee. Remember that behind a fee, there is professionalism, experience, and years of study and work, so there can obviously be significant variability between the fee of one surgeon and that of another.
